When I was asked to help plan and to style a surprise party for a fellow wedding professional and friend, I was ecstatic! Especially when this was to be a costume party in true Mad Men inspiration! How…fun…is…THAT?!
Lava lamp centerpieces, framed mod prints, candy cigars and cigarettes and linen colors reminiscent of the time period were right on point. Jerome’s Party Plus in Westfield MA has an array of colors to choose from, which made it easy for me when planning the color scheme. In addition to the retro details and decor, orange uplighting to fill the space was the finishing touch the look needed. Rob Alberti Event Services provided the lighting that lit the space up to perfection.
Guests enjoyed festive sips and sweets like Cosmopolitans, Malibu & Pineapple, Deviled Eggs, Shrimp Cocktail….and who could pass up the Martini Cupcakes by Frosted Swirl? Not me! (Psssst…I’ll let you in on a little secret. Those are not real olives on the cupcakes. They are chocolate covered almonds that are made to LOOK like olives. Sweet!)
DJ Lori B got the party started with dance music, and The Sharp Drop photo booth from Michelle Girard Photography was a hit. We all had so much fun in this photo booth. Michelle chose a mod print backdrop for this occasion, but she has lots of unique backdrops that you have not seen in this area. Take my advice when I say to check that out for your wedding or party or any event. You can instantly upload the pics to your social media pages, and also get an immediate printed pic, too!
If you want to throw a birthday party for someone…or even yourself…get in touch with me, and I’ll transform your party, too!

The look:
I do not claim to be a hair and makeup pro, but it was super fun to try a retro look with my curly locks, winged liner and a bold red lip. The retro inspired dress was something I found on Ebay and I topped it off with oh-so-classy pearls.
I had a blast!
